Dan Davies brings nearly two decades of international experience in education and workplace learning to his role as Gould & Ratner’s director of professional development, where he designs and leads the firm’s professional development strategy for attorneys and legal professionals.
Drawing on a foundation in constructivism and inquiry-based learning, Dan approaches professional development through questions that prompt critical thinking and self-discovery. Rather than prescribing one path, he helps attorneys chart their own course, creating a sense of ownership and deeper engagement in their growth. This framework fosters collaboration, confidence and practical problem-solving skills that extend well beyond formal training.
Dan’s programs reflect a holistic, action-learning approach that embeds professional development into the daily life of the firm. He works at the firm, department and individual levels to build structures that enhance efficiency, innovation and collaboration. From introducing short “food for thought” sessions on firm resources and practice integration to conducting quarterly check-ins with junior attorneys, Dan ensures development is both comprehensive and continuous. His initiatives give attorneys the tools not just to succeed in their current roles but to thrive in leadership and client service.
Through his focus on workplace learning design, Dan has had the opportunity to develop business simulations, eLearnings, virtual instructor-led courses, webinars, resources and in-person classes in diverse industries, including legal, finance, banking, technology, pharmaceuticals and nonprofit.
Dan has a master’s degree in eLearning and instructional design from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a bachelor’s degree in history and society from the University of Worcester in England. In his free time, Dan can be found biking, sailing, playing soccer and riding his motorcycle.
