Ed Trio, a partner in Gould & Ratner’s Tax Planning and Structuring Practice, as well as our Estate Planning and Wealth Transfer Practice, celebrated his retirement on June 18, 2024, after nearly 40 years at Gould & Ratner.

Ed joined Gould & Ratner in 1985 as an associate, focusing his practice on tax, estates and trusts and probate, and was promoted to partner a few years later.  In his years at the firm, his expertise and practice included income tax compliance, sophisticated estate planning and complex estate administration.  Ed previously had worked as a tax specialist at Deloitte and an attorney at Schnieder, Graf & Trio upon graduating from William Mitchell College of Law.

“Ed has been an important part of the Gould & Ratner family for a long time, and we will miss him as a partner, mentor, colleague and friend,” said Jessica Lingertat, one of Gould & Ratner’s Managing Partners.  “We admire and thank him for the impact that he has had on the firm and the notable and caring work he has performed for our clients. “

In addition to his law degree, Ed is also a Certified Public Accountant, and has often been named an Illinois SuperLawyer and an Illinois Leading Lawyer in the area of Tax Law.   Outside of Gould & Ratner, Ed also volunteered his time as a scoutmaster and merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.

We congratulate Ed on this exciting milestone and wish him the best!
